In the spring of 1998, Karen Foster created her first set of eight themed papers and her children helped pack and ship the orders from her garage, which served as a warehouse. With a burgeoning business to manage; Karen enlisted the help of creative designers and the company has expanded to employ a diverse range of dedicated employees endeavoring to offer product lines such as patterned paper, stickers, embellishments, tools, storage, specialty paper crafting products, social stationery items and photo kiosk creative content.
In 2005, the company was acquired by Imakim, Inc., a private equity company based in Ogden, Utah. The acquisition offered business expertise while providing additional resources for growth, and is one of the only acquisitions in the scrapbook industry by a Utah-based equity company. The purchase enhanced the financial strength of the company and supported its strategy for growth. In 2006, the company expanded into a new 17,000 sq. foot warehouse and also doubled its office space, which was instrumental in increasing productivity and operational efficiency.
The company is a leader in the scrapbooking industry because of its original designs, production of innovative products, attention to new and emerging scrapbook trends and focus on the feedback of scrapbook retailers. Karen Foster Design produces predominantly themed scrapbook products ranging from holidays to sports to everyday life events as well as specialty paper crafting products, social stationery and digital photo kiosk content. Karen Foster Design products are available in approximately 2,000 retail outlets across the United States as well as big box stores and craft chains such as Michaels, Hobby Lobby and Archiver’s. Karen Foster Design products are also distributed and represented in many countries worldwide.
